Central Lombok, NTB (ANTARA) – The Culture Office of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Provincial Government has begun inventorying artifacts and cultural elements damaged by the fire as an initial step toward preserving cultural heritage in Sade Traditional Village, Central Lombok District.

The Head of the NTB Culture Office, Muhamad Ihwan, said his office is identifying and saving the remaining cultural artifacts, including documenting the knowledge, stories, and traditions that live on among the Sade indigenous people.

“The most important part is saving cultural artifacts, including the stories of local residents,” he conveyed after inspecting the post-fire conditions at the Sade Traditional Village in Central Lombok on Sunday.

According to Ihwan, the inventory process is needed to evaluate damage to both tangible cultural objects and intangible cultural elements that form an important part of Sade Traditional Village’s identity.

Following the inventory process, his office will formulate reconstruction steps and plan the redevelopment of the area in collaboration with the Cultural Preservation Center, the Central Lombok District Government, and local traditional elders.

He further noted that the incident serves as an opportunity to reinforce measures to safeguard cultural assets that are vulnerable to disasters.

Following the fire in Bayan Traditional Village several months ago and the subsequent fire in Sade Traditional Village, the government has reminded all traditional villages to strengthen their preparedness for potential disasters.

“All traditional villages in West Nusa Tenggara must be equipped with fire extinguishing systems or early warning systems. Traditional villages must also have personnel specially trained in disaster mitigation,” Ihwan emphasized.

The NTB Culture Office is also encouraging comprehensive documentation of cultural objects, particularly the collections and weaving equipment as the identity of Sade Traditional Village.

Ihwan then pointed out the importance of documenting artifacts and making replicas as a way to preserve cultural heritage and facilitate its restoration following potential disasters in the future.

“This village is renowned for its weaving, so we need to document weaving-related items and produce replicas. That way, we will have references to help preserve and restore the cultural heritage,” he noted.
