NTT earthquake: 17 road sections, 14 bridges restored

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo has confirmed that all 17 road sections and 14 bridges affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have been restored and are now operational.

“In East Nusa Tenggara in general, all national roads are already in good condition. We are now moving on to provincial and regency roads. Some of the provincial and regency roads are relatively small. Several sections will later be used to connect regencies and serve as alternative routes,” Dody said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

The restoration is an important step in maintaining public mobility and ensuring the distribution of essential goods continues in the affected areas.

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) continues to address the impact of the earthquake in several areas of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). In addition to restoring connectivity, the ministry is accelerating the rehabilitation of basic public infrastructure, including the provision of clean water for affected residents on Flores Island.

Based on response data as of Aug. 30, 2026, the Ministry of Public Works recorded 17 affected road sections, comprising 88 landslide points and three fault breaks. All of the affected road sections have been restored and are operational. In addition, 14 affected bridges and three culverts have also been restored and returned to service.

However, the earthquake’s impact has extended beyond connectivity infrastructure. Minister Dody said extensive damage had also occurred to buildings essential for providing basic public services.

“From the Public Works Ministry’s side, there is actually a lot of damage. Since this was an earthquake, buildings are generally what suffered the most damage. The major structures affected include churches, mosques, hospitals and community health centers,” he said.

The Ministry of Public Works has so far recorded 651 affected public buildings, including 112 religious education facilities, 300 places of worship, and 238 health facilities.

Of these, 152 facilities have undergone phased verification to assess the extent of damage and determine the necessary response. In addition, 17 government buildings and one military building were affected and are currently undergoing damage assessments.

Meanwhile, the ministry is also addressing damage to several drinking-water infrastructure facilities caused by the earthquake.

A total of 81 drinking-water supply systems (SPAM) are undergoing damage verification, with one system already receiving repairs. Two sludge treatment plants (IPLT) and one final waste disposal site (TPA) were also affected and are undergoing verification.

For water resources infrastructure, the ministry is conducting functional assessments of two weirs, one dam, 15 irrigation areas, 14 raw-water wells, three reservoirs, four coastal protection structures, and two rivers. All of these facilities have entered the assessment and response process.
