Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Health Ministry is expanding the Field Hospital at Golo Dukal Stadium in Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), bringing its total capacity to 100 beds to support emergency medical operations following a recent earthquake in the region.
Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin confirmed in his statement on Wednesday that the temporary facility was established to absorb patient overflow and support healthcare services at the damaged Ruteng Regional Hospital.
“We have installed five tents here—four are for patients, each accommodating 20 people, and one sterile, isolated tent specifically reserved for surgical procedures,” Budi stated.
Initial deployment provided 60 inpatient beds alongside an emergency room tent. To meet the expanded 100-bed target, additional disaster response tents are being deployed from Bali.
The field hospital utilizes international-standard disaster response tents equipped with elevated flooring to facilitate patient mobility, maintain hygiene, and prevent water ingress during rain.
A critical component of the field hospital is its sterile operating room, equipped with operating lights and surgical tables to treat trauma patients requiring immediate intervention.
“This room is sterile and can be isolated. Facilities like this were used during the disasters in Sumedang and Aceh,” Budi explained, emphasizing that the setup allows surgical teams to perform urgent procedures on fracture and trauma cases without waiting for main hospital buildings to resume operations.
The Health Ministry announced it will replicate this field hospital model in Nagekeo Regency, where the local referral hospital was similarly impacted by the earthquake.
Specialist doctors, surgical teams, and essential medical logistics are currently being mobilized to both regencies to ensure uninterrupted emergency care.
