Paloh asks MPR to invite all presidential hopefuls

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Chief of the National Democrat (NasDem) Party Surya Paloh has asked the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) to invite candidates who may run for president in 2024 to share their vision, mission, and national outlook.

“We will have presidential candidates who will compete in 2024. Bang Surya said MPR had better invite the presidential candidates to present their vision, mission, and national outlook before MPR members,” MPR chairman Bambang Soesatyo informed following a meeting with Surya Paloh at NasDem Tower here on Friday.

MPR will consider the idea to achieve the goals of nationhood and statehood in accordance with the 1945 Constitution, Soesatyo said.

“In response to his suggestion, we will review our Constitution in order to achieve our goal of nationhood and statehood, in accordance with the spirit, desire, and wish of the nation’s founders,” he added.

During his meeting with the NasDem Party executive board, Soesatyo was accompanied by MPR deputy chief Jazilul Fawaid from the National Awakening Party (PKB), MPR deputy chief Hidayat Nur Wahid from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), MPR deputy chief Syarief Hasan from the Democratic Party, and MPR deputy chief Lestari Moerdijat from the NasDem Party.

Soesatyo said the visit was a sign of national friendship, which was once suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said the MPR leadership visited not only NasDem Party, but also other political parties. “We will hold national dialogues with all political parties. This morning we visited PPP (United Development Party), and this afternoon we visited NasDem Party,” he added.

During the closed-door dialogue, Paloh and the MPR leadership discussed several national problems.

Paloh said the problems concerned the existing situation, the portrait of the community’s social life, and the preparedness of the NasDam Party for the 2024 polls.

“The discussions yielded agreements. We hope there will be consolidated efforts from all elements and components of the community directed towards creating joint awareness so that the 2024 general elections will Insyaallah (God willing) give quality values to the general elections,” he said.
