Pancasila must be reflected in how state protects people: MPR Speaker

Jakarta (ANTARA) – People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ahmad Muzani stressed that Pancasila must be visibly reflected in how the state protects its people.

He said this includes how law is enforced, including ongoing anti-corruption efforts as a priority, how national wealth is managed, and how people stay united amid differences.

“That is the value and spirit of Pancasila,” Muzani said in his opening speech at the 2026 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the parliament complex here on Friday.

He said that whenever the Indonesian nation returns to Pancasila as a common ground, all elements of the nation gain powerful energy and a path to rise together.

Throughout history, Muzani said Pancasila has faced repeated tests. Indonesia has weathered political upheaval, ideological conflict, tensions between groups, economic crises, communal violence, separatism, terrorism, and even a pandemic.

Even so, as the state ideology, Pancasila remains the greatest common ground the Indonesian nation has ever achieved.

Muzani also stressed that Pancasila was not born out of nowhere, but grew out of Indonesia’s historical experience, culture, religion, and living wisdom within society.

“Pancasila was formulated through debate, reflection, and a willingness to find a path acceptable to all groups,” he said.

This Friday, the People’s Consultative Assembly, House of Representatives, and Regional Representatives Council held their Annual Sessions.

The agenda included President Prabowo Subianto’s speech on the performance of state institutions and his State of the Nation Address marking Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day. The government would also present a video showcasing its achievements.

The annual session was a state event held to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence, under the theme “Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia“.
