Wamena (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Ministry of Public Works is targeting the construction of People’s Schools (SR) in Papua to be completed by March 2027 to help meeting the region’s educational needs.
Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti said here on Friday that construction of the integrated People’s Schools in Papua had been underway for a month in districts of Jayapura City, Sarmi, and Biak Numfor.
“The construction of the integrated People’s Schools in Papua was started a month ago and the current progress stands at only 4 percent. We are targeting completion in March 2027,” Kusumastuti said.
She made the statement while accompanying Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono during a visit to the People’s School at the Industrial Vocational Training Center in Tanjung Ria, North Jayapura District, Jayapura City, Papua Province.

Kusumastuti explained each of the integrated People’s Schools being built in Jayapura City, Sarmi, and Biak Numfor would have a capacity of 2,520 students.
“The capacity of each integrated People’s School currently being built in the three areas in Papua is for 2,520 students,” she added.
She also explained the integrated People’s Schools would comprise school buildings, dormitories, multipurpose halls, worship facilities, sports facilities, and accommodation for the teaching staff.

“In line with the President’s instruction, the integrated People’s Schools being built will accommodate all students and provide various supporting facilities to help improve their abilities beyond academic skills,” she said.
The budget allocated for the construction of the schools in those districts amounted to around Rp1 trillion (about US$56.3 million).
“The construction budget for the People’s Schools in the three areas in Papua amounts to around Rp1 trillion,” Kusumastuti said.
