Of course, the interfaith prayer tonight is something very important

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Police Force hosted an interfaith prayer activity while commemorating the 76th Anniversary of the Police Force as a spiritual effort to supplicate for a better Indonesia.

The collective prayer served as a means to support physical efforts in order to improve Indonesia, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated.

“Of course, the interfaith prayer tonight is something very important. (This is) because indeed, this prayer is one of the spiritual efforts of what we are doing, in addition to the physical efforts that we may have carried out together,” he noted in a written statement on Saturday.

He opined that both spiritual and physical efforts must continue to be made simultaneously, particularly since the world was in the midst of the uncertain global situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia and Ukraine conflicts.

“Like it or not, this will also have an impact on the situation which in turn will have an impact on the food and energy crisis,” he stated.

Spiritual efforts were necessary to deal with changes in the national situation and maintaining unity and integrity. The efforts also require collective collaboration from everyone, he remarked.

Various forms of threats, disturbances, and problems in Indonesia can be prevented by working together, hand-in-hand. Threats and problems that could arise include tensions arising during the presidential, legislative, and regional elections as well as the outbreak of the foot and mouth disease.

He pressed for the need for strong spiritual unification as a means to ward off or face the predicament.

Prabowo believed that all these efforts would enable Indonesia to forge ahead, against all odds, through unity that emphasizes strength within diversity, ethnicity, and culture.

Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, as the national value, would enable Indonesia to pursue the dream of becoming a greater nation by 2045, he affirmed.

“Obviously, as for things that would (cause) polarization, we urge for them to be eradicated. Everyone must unite to face (the problem) and pursue a better Indonesia,” he affirmed.

Some religious figures partook in the event. They led prayers according to their respective beliefs. The attendees include Deputy Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Management KH Zulfa Mustafa as the Muslim representative, Pastor Robert Hutapea as the Protestant representative, Father David Lerebulan as the Catholic representative, and Krht Astono Chandra Dana as the Hindu representative.
