Police rule out bomb in South Tangerang’sCimanggis Market blast

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Police have ruled out a bomb or other explosive device as the cause of an October 14 blast at Cimanggis Market in Ciputat, South Tangerang, in the Greater Jakarta area, Metro Jaya police said.

The police bomb squad found no evidence of a bomb or other explosive materials, Metro Jaya Police Spokesman Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto said in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Police are awaiting forensic laboratory results to determine what triggered the explosion, Budi said.

“We are awaiting forensic test results to establish whether liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or ethylene gas caused the explosion or fire,” he said.

He said police were prioritizing treatment and recovery for people injured in the incident.

Alongside victim assistance, the Metro Jaya Police General Criminal Investigation Directorate is investigating the blast to establish its cause.

Investigators are examining whether the incident involved deliberate actions or negligence, Budi said, adding that police would provide further updates.

Police are also awaiting findings from the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency’s Forensic Laboratory on the blast in Ciputat, South Tangerang, which killed two people.

In an earlier statement on October 15, Budi said the laboratory’s findings would be presented on a scientific basis.

Authorities reported 13 casualties: 11 people injured and two killed.

Five victims were listed at Sari Asih Hospital, five at South Tangerang Regional Hospital and three at Fatmawati Hospital. Of the 11 injured, four suffered serious injuries and seven sustained minor injuries.
