Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation in finance and trade amid an increasingly fragmented world.
In his speech at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday, Prabowo said trade is now often used as an instrument of pressure, while global supply chains and financial systems have also been affected by rising geopolitical tensions.
“Precisely because the world is fragmented, every bridge built here in food, energy, science, logistics, and trade is a practical answer,” Prabowo said, as monitored online here on Thursday.
He said resilience in global finance requires more than one functioning system. According to him, dependence on a single financial architecture could increase risks to smooth trade if that system were disrupted.
“We must not rely on a single financial architecture, because if one system is disrupted, another must remain able to facilitate the flow of funds that keeps trade moving,” he said.
Therefore, Prabowo said reliable payment channels and transaction settlement systems are one of the key foundations for sustaining international trade. Without reliable payment and settlement channels, he said, trade risks disruption or even paralysis.
However, Prabowo stressed that strengthening alternative financial systems is not intended to replace existing ones.
“This is not about replacing one system with another, but about ensuring that other global financial systems can operate alongside existing arrangements to maintain continuity, stability, and confidence in international trade,” he explained.
He also stressed that cross-country cooperation is becoming increasingly important to ensure global trade and financial flows continue amid uncertainty and economic fragmentation.
President Prabowo also invited Russian companies to come and do business in Indonesia.
“Come to Indonesia, cooperate with us, and produce together with us. Let’s build industries together and create shared value,” he said.
