Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto departed for Vladivostok, Russia, on Tuesday evening (September 1) to attend the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The presidential aircraft took off from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta at 23:20 Eastern Indonesia Time, carrying President Prabowo and an official delegation following a limited cabinet meeting at the President’s residence in Hambalang.

A high-level delegation accompanied the President, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto, Investment Minister Rosan Roeslani and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.

The four-day forum, hosted at Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) from September 1–4, 2026, centers on expanding economic ties across the Asia-Pacific region.

“President Putin specifically invited President Prabowo as the EEF’s main guest of honor. This is a reflection of the close relations between Indonesia and Russia built through direct leader-to-leader diplomacy,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy said, prior to departure.

Teddy noted that this marks the second time President Prabowo has served as a guest of honor at an international economic forum in Russia, following his attendance at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) last year.

According to Teddy, Russia views Indonesia as a strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region, recognizing its influence within ASEAN, the Global South and the broader Islamic world.

During the visit, President Prabowo is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Putin to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, energy and other strategic sectors.

Teddy reiterated that the visit is in line with Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy, with the aim of delivering direct national and economic benefits.
