Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto officially dispatched Indonesia’s 430-strong contingent competing in the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan on Wednesday.
The send-off ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta, on Wednesday, where the president handed the national flag to athlete representative Veddriq Leonardo, a speed climber.
“I am proud to meet with all of you today. Sports are vital in the life of our nation and state,” Prabowo said.
He noted that the 430 athletes represent hundreds of millions of Indonesians through their dedication and skills.
Prabowo expressed gratitude for the sacrifices of the athletes, who have undergone intensive training to achieve peak performance and bring honor to the nation.
“I offer my congratulations. Safe travels, and best of luck representing our nation. Fight your best, and do your best for your country,” he said.
Prabowo emphasized that a strong nation is built upon citizens who are physically, technically, and mentally strong.
A total of 281 contingent members attended the ceremony in person, as several athletes had already departed for Japan or were attending overseas training camps.
Earlier Wednesday, the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) confirmed the final roster of 430 athletes across 35 sports branches for the Games.
Chef de Mission Todotua Pasaribu said the squad size was reduced by two athletes from the 432 originally submitted during the entry-by-name stage.
“The Indonesian Team will be reinforced by 430 athletes and 145 officials across 35 sports branches,” Pasaribu said.
In addition to athletes and officials, Indonesia deployed 78 support personnel, including medical doctors, masseurs, physiotherapists, and headquarters staff.
The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will take place from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4, 2026.
