Jakarta (ANTARA) –
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi jointly condemned Israel’s illegal settlement expansion during bilateral talks at Merdeka Palace on Sunday.
“We strongly condemn Israel’s illegal settlement construction and actions that only worsen the situation,” Subianto said in a joint statement following the summit, calling for an immediate de-escalation of regional conflict.
The two leaders expressed deep concern over ongoing violations of international law and military operations that have resulted in civilian casualties, reaffirming their support for a two-state solution to secure lasting peace in the Middle East.
Subianto emphasized that Indonesia remains firmly committed to the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, pledging continued humanitarian aid and diplomatic backing alongside Cairo.
“We continue to advocate de-escalation, restraint, respect for the sovereignty of international law in accordance with the UN Charter, and emphasize the importance of dialogue and diplomacy,” Subianto added, warning that further escalation threatens global stability.
El-Sisi praised the diplomatic ties between the two nations and welcomed the formal elevation of their relationship to a strategic partnership.
“We also agreed on the need for a comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian issue, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” El-Sisi said. “This is the only way to achieve lasting peace.”
