Prabowo emphasizes RI’s free and active foreign policy at EEF Rusia

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that Indonesia will continue to pursue a “free and active” foreign policy by determining its own national interests and making an active contribution to global peace.

“Indonesia’s foreign policy is free and active. We determine our own national interests, and we want to contribute actively to peace,” he said while delivering a speech as the main guest of honor at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday.

As monitored online in Jakarta, President stated that Indonesia does not intend to join any military alliances, but it seeks to participate in economic alliances.

According to the President, Indonesia’s Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) represents an economic partnership aimed not at opposing any party, but at fostering shared prosperity.

“Indonesia works with the East, West, North, and South as a sovereign and equal partner,” he said.

Prabowo underscored Indonesia’s principle of making friendships and avoiding hostility. “For us, a thousand friends are too few, and one enemy is too many,” he said.

The Head of State noted that Indonesia had attended the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) last year to seek friends, and now attends the EEF to translate those friendships into pragmatic outcomes.

Prabowo also emphasized that the Global South is not a new bloc, but rather a group advocating for justice, the equitable distribution of prosperity, and a fair voice in shaping global rules.

President affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to support any sincere effort to achieve a just and lasting peace in regions still plagued by conflict.

“Our position is clear and consistent. Indonesia is ready to support any sincere effort toward a just and lasting peace wherever conflict remains,” he said.

President then linked the concept of peace to development. He said hunger, unemployment, injustice, and humiliation could fuel conflict.

Prabowo said that a Far East offering opportunities, countries capable of meeting their people’s food needs, and the Asia-Pacific region’s embrace of open trade represented tangible and sustainable contributions to peace.

“Sovereignty enables peace. Peace enables development. And development that benefits the people ensures that peace endures,” he said.
