Prabowo hosts Chinese ministers to deepen bilateral ties

Beijing (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto hosted Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun in Jakarta on Friday to deepen bilateral relations, following high-level strategic talks earlier that day.

The ministers visited Prabowo after attending the inaugural Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue and the second 2+2 meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

China’s Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that Prabowo asked Wang to convey his best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and praised their morning discussions.

Prabowo praised Xi’s leadership, citing improvements in living standards for hundreds of millions of people and China’s advances in economic, scientific, technological and military fields.

“These achievements have set an example for Global South countries and provided valuable lessons that can be used as references by many,” Prabowo said.

Prabowo said Indonesia was confident China would treat it as an equal partner and thanked Beijing for its strong support.

“Indonesia hopes to comprehensively strengthen strategic cooperation with China in politics, the economy, science and technology, and other areas,” he said.

Prabowo said Indonesia remained open to Chinese investment and was committed to creating a favorable business climate for Chinese companies.

He also said he looked forward to visiting Shenzhen in November for the 2026 APEC Summit and strengthening strategic coordination with China.

Wang conveyed Xi’s greetings to Prabowo and praised Indonesia’s progress in overcoming challenges and advancing national development under Prabowo’s administration.

Wang said Indonesia and China shared a commitment to economic development that benefits their people, noting their complementary strengths.

He said China was ready to help Indonesia use its resources to drive development, accelerate industrialization and modernization, and improve living standards.

Wang said deepening mutual trust and support was in the interests of both countries as they navigated global challenges, adding that they should pursue shared goals.

China would follow up on the outcomes of its strategic talks and engagements with Indonesia, Wang said.

He said both countries would continue strengthening cooperation in key sectors while contributing to regional peace and stability.
