The President’s directive to us is clear, but we are waiting first for the DPR’s legislative initiative.

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the government to expedite the passage of the Asset Forfeiture Bill, Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas said on Friday, as parliament considers legislation aimed at strengthening various law enforcement.

“The president’s directive to the law minister is clear: it must be expedited. But because this is a legislative initiative of parliament, we are waiting,” Agtas said after attending the 2026 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday.

The bill is being discussed by Commission III of the House of Representatives, which oversees legal and law enforcement affairs. The commission has been holding public hearings with various groups in society, Agtas said.

“I am confident that the DPR will proceed with the legislative initiative as soon as possible, and we are ready to discuss it jointly with the DPR,” he said.

Agtas declined to comment on the substance of the proposed legislation, saying he would wait until the DPR completes its deliberations.

“I do not want to comment on the substance yet because the government will certainly have its own position. The President’s directive to us is clear, but we are waiting first for the DPR’s legislative initiative. After that, the government will discuss it jointly with the DPR, including through the Ministry of Law,” he said.

The Asset Forfeiture Bill is included in the National Legislation Program (Prolegnas), with DPR Commission III aiming to complete the draft this year.

Parliament has held a series of public hearings over the past month as it seeks views from various stakeholders on the bill.
