Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto has pledged to gradually develop East Nusa Tenggara Province down to the village level to boost regional productivity and improve residents’ welfare.
Prabowo made the pledge while meeting disaster victims at an evacuation center in Tonggurambang Village, Mbay District, East Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday.
“The district head has shared ideas to make this district highly productive. We will develop all of East Nusa Tenggara and all of Indonesia,” the president said.
Development will be carried out evenly from the district and subdistrict levels down to the village level, Prabowo said.
“District by district, subdistrict by subdistrict, village by village, we will develop. Our people must live well and prosper,” he said.
Prabowo then highlighted the implementation of the government’s Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program in Nagekeo District.
He said Nagekeo’s regent had reported that residents were benefiting from the program.
“I was told by the district head that Nagekeo residents are benefiting from MBG. Is that true?” Prabowo asked the residents.
Residents at the evacuation center answered unanimously, “Yes.”
Prabowo then asked whether residents wanted the MBG program to continue. They again responded unanimously, “Continue!”
Hearing their response, Prabowo assured the residents that the MBG program would continue. He said MBG was important for supporting the health of vulnerable groups, particularly children, pregnant women, and older people.
Prabowo also interacted with residents by asking them the full names of several officials accompanying him, including National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia.
East Nusa Tenggara was hit by a magnitude-7.7 earthquake on August 15, killing 75 people and damaging many buildings, including 1,378 schools on Flores Island.
