Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto said that bonuses for the Indonesian national football team following its victory in the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 would be arranged by the Chairman of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI), Erick Thohir.
“Well, that will be handled by the PSSI Chairman,” he told reporters when asked about the possibility of bonuses for the players after he watched the final match at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium in Jakarta on Monday evening (Oct. 5).
Prabowo also expressed joy and pride in the national team, praising the players’ determination in overcoming Thailand, one of Southeast Asia’s strongest sides.
“We are happy, grateful, and we are proud of our team’s effort. They kept fighting until the end,” the president said.
Indonesia were crowned champions after defeating Thailand 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra time.

The two teams maintained a high tempo throughout the match, with Thailand playing with 10 men in the final 10 minutes after Nicholas Mickelson received a second yellow card for a challenge near the penalty area.
Dean James capitalized on the numerical advantage, converting the resulting free kick in the 84th minute to put Indonesia ahead. The lead proved short-lived, however, as Iklas Sanron leveled the score around two minutes later to force extra time.
In the 111th minute, Thailand took the lead through Peeradol Chamrasasame, but Indonesia’s Elkan Baggott equalized three minutes later to send the match to a penalty shootout.
All four Indonesian takers, Kevin Diks, Dean James, Elkan Baggott, and Shayne Pattynama, successfully converted from the spot. Thailand, meanwhile, saw Sarach Yooyen strike the post, while Nattaphon Sayriya’s attempt was saved by Indonesian goalkeeper Emil Audero.
Team Indonesia received the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 trophy from Prabowo and FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The Indonesian president then joined the players on the podium to celebrate Indonesia’s historic title triumph.
