Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto expressed support for increasing the frequency of joint military exercises between the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the Royal Thai Armed Forces.
During a bilateral meeting with Thai PM Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace here on Monday, President Prabowo emphasized that cooperation between the two countries should be future-oriented, mutually beneficial, and contribute to a stronger and more stable ASEAN.
“In my view, we must strengthen our defense and security cooperation. We should increase both the number and the level of joint exercises between our armed forces. We should also expand the exchange of officers for training and education,” President Prabowo said.
The head of state also expressed hope that the two countries would broaden economic cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, food security, and energy security.
He also encouraged closer collaboration in digital technology while strengthening connectivity and people-to-people ties between the two countries.
“By strengthening cooperation in these areas, we can reinforce our bilateral partnership while contributing to the peace, stability, and prosperity of our region,” Prabowo remarked.
In addition to discussing enhanced bilateral cooperation, President Prabowo said he has maintained a longstanding personal relationship with King Maha Vajiralongkorn.
He also asked PM Charnvirakul to convey his birthday greetings to King Vajiralongkorn.
Following their one-on-one meeting at the Merdeka Palace on Monday afternoon, President Prabowo and PM Charnvirakul co-chaired a bilateral meeting.
The two leaders then witnessed the exchange of several cooperation documents signed by both countries before delivering a joint press statement.
Concluding the Thai PM’s official visit, President Prabowo hosted a state dinner for PM Charnvirakul and the Thai delegation at the palace.
