Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto urged the public, particularly those in Jakarta, Banten, Lampung, and areas around the Sunda Strait, to remain calm and vigilant following the eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau.
The president called on the public to follow government and on-site officials’ instructions and avoid approaching Mount Anak Krakatau. He also asked people to observe the designated danger zones and safety limits.
“Please remain calm, increase vigilance, and follow all directions from the government and officials in the field. Do not approach the Mount Anak Krakatau area and fully comply with the danger zone and safety limits established by the authorities,” he remarked in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, the government has been monitoring the development of Mount Anak Krakatau’s activity and has received reports and the latest information from relevant agencies.
The head of state has also asked the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the military, the police, Health Ministry, Transportation Ministry, and related ministries and institutions to keep a close watch on the situation.
Furthermore, all government agencies have been instructed to ensure adequate preparedness and provide the necessary protection and assistance to the public.
For communities affected by volcanic ash, Prabowo called on residents to prioritize their health by wearing masks or other respiratory protection.
Residents are also advised to limit outdoor activities during heavy ashfall and follow guidance from health officials and local governments.
“Maintain your health by wearing masks or respiratory protection, reduce outdoor activities during heavy ashfall, and follow the instructions of health officials and local governments,” the president continued.
President Prabowo reaffirmed that he would closely follow developments and take the necessary actions to safeguard the Indonesian people.
He also called on the public to pray for the continued safety of Indonesians, particularly communities around Mount Anak Krakatau and the Sunda Strait.
According to the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG), the continuous eruption earthquake of Anak Krakatau began on Friday, September 4, 2026, at 11:07 p.m. and ended on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 12:04 a.m. local time.
Although the continuous eruption has ended, Mount Anak Krakatau remains active, with a relatively high risk of further eruptions that could cause incandescent rock ejections, heavy ashfall, and lava flows.
