Pramono inspects Angke River embankment project to prevent flooding

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has inspected the progress of an embankment construction project along the Angke River in the Permata Buana section of North Kembangan, West Jakarta, which is now 90 percent complete.

The 2.057-kilometer project is part of the Jakarta provincial government’s efforts to increase the river’s water-flow capacity and reduce flood risks in residential areas along the Angke River.

“The Angke River infrastructure project in the Permata Buana section covers a total length of 2.057 kilometers, divided into four segments. Segment 1 measuring 661 meters; Segment 2, 597 meters; Segment 3, 683 meters; and Segment 4, 116 meters,” Pramono said in Kembangan, West Jakarta, on Tuesday.

He explained the embankment construction is part of the JakTirta Project, which is being implemented over the 2025–2026 period. The work includes installing sheet piles to reinforce the riverbanks and facilitate the flow of water downstream.

The infrastructure is expected to reduce the risk of the Angke River overflowing during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly in North Kembangan subdistrict.

“The Angke River infrastructure project in Permata Buana, along with its supporting facilities, is expected to increase water storage capacity and reduce flood risks in Kembangan District, particularly in North Kembangan Subdistrict, through which the Angke River flows,” Pramono said.
