Jakarta (ANTARA) – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has urged North Jakarta’s regional leadership coordination forum to help tackling drug-related activities in Kampung Bahari.
“North Jakarta’s leadership forum, alongside police and military personnel, went into the field Monday to follow up on the police chief’s instructions. I also ordered the move,” Pramono said in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
He also voiced full support for police efforts to eradicate drug activity in the area.
Earlier, the Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner General Dadang Hartanto stressed the need to improve conditions in Kampung Muara Bahari, Tanjung Priok, to prevent the area from becoming a drug trafficking and abuse hub again.
“Police sweeps and law enforcement alone are not enough to address drug-prone areas. Further action must also address environmental conditions and residents’ social circumstances,” Dadang said.

While inspecting the area near the railway tracks, he saw several buildings suspected of being used as sites for drug use. He said the physical vulnerabilities required coordinated action across sectors to prevent a recurrence.
He had also contacted railway officials about plans to improve the area along the tracks.
The effort would require close cooperation with the Jakarta administration and other stakeholders, including to develop solutions for residents’ housing needs.
“Improving the social environment requires cooperation and greater public awareness,” Dadang said.

The plan should improve not only the area’s physical conditions but also encourage residents to help prevent drug trafficking, while taking into account the needs of those earning a legitimate living locally.
He added police had limited authority over housing and urban planning, making the involvement of the local government and state railway company PT KAI essential to ensuring each party fulfilled its responsibilities.
Dadang hoped efforts in Kampung Bahari would continue after the police operation ended until the area was safe, orderly and free of drugs.
