President orders firm and accountable enforcement in forest areas

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the enforcement of regulations in forest areas to be carried out firmly, transparently, and accountably.

The president issued the directive during a meeting with the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force, led by Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, in Hambalang, West Java, on Friday.

According to a statement released on Saturday, the meeting took place shortly after Prabowo returned from his working visit to Vladivostok, Russia.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the task force briefed the president on the latest findings and enforcement measures regarding various violations in forest areas.

“During the meeting, the Forest Area Enforcement Task Force reported on the latest findings and enforcement measures against various violations involving the use of forest areas, including illegal mining activities,” Wijaya said.

The task force also reported on administrative fines imposed in connection with the unlawful use of forest land, with updated developments scheduled for release in the second week of September 2026.

During the briefing, Prabowo stressed that law enforcement must be executed firmly and professionally.

He instructed that all stages of enforcement and regulation prioritize transparency and accountability.

“President Prabowo stressed that law enforcement must be carried out firmly and professionally. All stages of enforcement and regulation of forest areas must be conducted in a transparent and accountable manner,” Wijaya said.

The enforcement measures are part of government efforts to protect forest areas while ensuring natural resources are utilized in compliance with applicable laws.

Through the task force, the government continues taking action against violations in forest areas, including illegal mining and unauthorized land clearing, to ensure responsible management.

Besides Attorney General ST Burhanuddin and Teddy Indra Wijaya, those attending the limited meeting included Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Defense Logistics Agency Chief at the Ministry of Defense Vice Marshal Yusuf Jauhari, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, and Danantara Chief Technology Officer Sigit P. Santosa.
