Jakarta (ANTARA) – A 5.2-magnitude earthquake jolted North Nias District, North Sumatra Province, on Thursday at 2:58 p.m. local time, according to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
The earthquake was centered at 1.47 degrees northern latitude and 96.95 degrees eastern longitude, or 45 kilometers (km) northwest of North Nias, at a depth of 14 km.

No immediate report was received of casualties or injuries.
Indonesia lies on the Ring of Fire along the north-eastern islands adjacent of New Guinea and the Alpide belt along the south and west from Sumatra, Java, Bali, Flores, and Timor.
The motion of the fault generates numerous small earthquakes on a daily basis.
