Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s military (TNI) deployed troops to earthquake-hit areas of East Nusa Tenggara on Saturday, preparing personnel, Hercules aircraft and naval vessels to speed evacuations and relief efforts.
The TNI also prepared logistical support, including Hercules aircraft and Navy vessels, with their deployment adjusted to needs and conditions on the ground.
“TNI has deployed Hercules aircraft and naval vessels to help manage the disaster and support affected communities,” TNI Spokesman Maj. Gen. Muhammad Nas said.
Troops deployed for evacuations and relief efforts came from Sikka, Manggarai and Ende military districts, as well as the 834/Wakanga Mere Territorial Development Infantry Battalion.
Nas said the TNI was coordinating with local governments, police, the disaster agency, search-and-rescue agency and other institutions to ensure a swift, coordinated response.
According to disaster agency data, Manggarai was the worst-affected district, followed by East Manggarai.
