Jakarta (ANTARA) –
President Prabowo Subianto is committed to strengthening Indonesia’s National Health Insurance (JKN) program, the community empowerment minister said Friday, as officials rejected rumors that it would be abolished.
“The president is committed to making BPJS Kesehatan a reliable, professional and resilient administrator of JKN, ensuring health care is accessible to all Indonesians,” said Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar.
He cited an additional Rp20 trillion (about US$1.10 billion) in state funding for BPJS Kesehatan as evidence of the president’s commitment.
BPJS Kesehatan President Director Prihati Pujowaskito said half of the allocation, Rp10 trillion (about US$551 million), was disbursed in October, with the remainder due in November.
Rumors had circulated that the JKN program would be abolished, but Pujowaskito dismissed the claims.
“Who said it would be abolished?” he told reporters on Friday.
BPJS Kesehatan Public Relations Head Rizzky Anugerah had also rejected the rumors, calling social media claims about the program’s abolition false.
He stressed that JKN remained operational under a strong legal framework as part of Indonesia’s national social security system.
“JKN is a state program mandated by law. Social media claims that BPJS Kesehatan will be abolished are false. JKN remains operational, and we are focused on improving services,” he said.
Anugerah said BPJS Kesehatan was a public legal entity established under Law No. 24 of 2011 on Social Security Administering Bodies. The national health insurance system is governed by Law No. 40 of 2004.
He said BPJS Kesehatan was part of the government’s efforts to provide social protection, including access to essential health care.
