Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia is pushing for faster economic growth to lift millions out of poverty and provide them with a dignified life.
“We seek faster economic growth, not growth just for growth’s sake, but growth that can lift millions of people out of poverty into dignity,” he remarked at the 11th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday.
Speaking during a broadcast on the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel, Prabowo said this principle reflects an economic philosophy prioritizing realism, pragmatism, and achieving the greatest good for the greatest number of people.
Development must not benefit only a select few, he noted, adding that success should instead be measured by its tangible impact on ordinary families’ daily lives—from access to nutritious food to job availability and reliable electricity.
“Development cannot only benefit the few; development must be measured at the dinner table of ordinary families: whether children receive nutritious food, whether farmers can obtain fertilizer and sell their produce at fair prices,” he said.
Prabowo said this approach underpins several key national policies, including free nutritious meals for children and pregnant women, food self-sufficiency, energy security, and downstream industrialization.
Downstream processing aims to leverage Indonesia’s natural resources to build domestic industries, develop workforce skills, and create quality jobs, according to the president.
He added that economic growth must directly address how a region’s wealth translates into an improved quality of life for its citizens.
“This forum essentially asks the same fundamental question as the one asked by my people to me: how can the great wealth of a region translate into a better life for the people who live there?” he said.
