RI uses data driven approach mapping disaster recovery needs in Aceh

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Creative Economy has promoted a data-driven approach to mapping infrastructure conditions and local needs in Aceh Tamiang District, Aceh Province, as the region’s economy continues its recovery from last year’s devastating floods.

“We want to encourage the use of technological innovation to help address concrete problems faced by the region. Mapping serves as an initial step toward obtaining a comprehensive picture of conditions and needs on the ground,” said the ministry’s Director of Technological Creativity, Dandy Yudha Feryawan, on Thursday.

The ministry assisted the district administration in mapping key areas for rehabilitation efforts under a priority profiling program conducted from Oct. 14 to 16, with support from local technology startup Niriksagara.

Niriksagara operated artificial intelligence-powered technology to map infrastructure conditions and economic activity, providing local authorities with a more reliable database to identify infrastructure needs, assess regional accessibility, and gauge the potential for economic recovery.

The mapping exercise identified several strategic locations, including the district’s administrative center, Tamiang Sport Center, an amphitheater, the Paya Udang rice field area, road access to Rukui Island Beach, and the Dam Rengas bathing site.

Acting Head of the Aceh Tamiang Tourism, Youth, and Sports Office Muhammad Farij expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Creative Economy for involving the local administration in the mapping initiative.

He emphasized the need for local authorities to provide the central government with information on conditions in disaster-affected areas and the assistance required for recovery efforts.

“We hope the mapping results will serve as a basis for consideration in further discussions on priority measures,” he said.

The ministry’s initiative forms part of its effort to advance Indonesia’s Master Plan for Accelerating Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra.
