Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) – The joint search and rescue (SAR) team expanded the search area for Cheon Yuri (31), a South Korean national who was reported missing while snorkeling off Gili Trawangan, West Nusa Tenggara, on Tuesday (October 6).
Coordinator of the Bangsal SAR Alert Unit, I Gusti Komang Aryadana, said the second day of the search focused on both surface and underwater operations in the waters off the island in North Lombok District.
“On the second day, the Mataram SAR Office deployed an additional Rigid Buoyancy Boat (RBB) dispatched from Lembar Port in West Lombok,” he said on Wednesday.
The vessel was deployed to reinforce search operations previously carried out by the Bangsal SAR Alert Unit and local SAR elements.
In addition to surface sweeps using the RBB, rubber boats, and local fishing boats, the team is maximizing underwater searches through diving operations.
He said that as of Wednesday afternoon, personnel from the Mataram SAR Office, the Bangsal SAR Alert Unit, and the crew of the KN 220 Mataram rescue vessel had conducted two dives around the area where the victim was last seen.
“Search efforts as of Wednesday afternoon have yielded no results,” Aryadana said.
The joint search team includes personnel from the Indonesian Navy, West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police Water and Air Unit (Polairud), North Lombok Police Water Unit, and the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), as well as local residents and fishermen.
