Indonesia continues to show improvement in the number of cases and the handling of COVID-19 up until now
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The COVID-19 situation in Indonesia has shown a significant improvement this year compared to last year, coordinator of the expert team of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Prof Wiku Adisasmito has said.
“Indonesia continues to show improvement in the number of cases and the handling of COVID-19 up until now,” he informed at the task force’s virtual press conference here on Thursday.
A comparison of the COVID-19 situation on August 17, 2021, and August 17, 2022, shows there has been an improvement this year, Adisasmito explained.
The number of daily confirmed cases has declined 53 percent, from around 11 thousand cases recorded in 2021 to around 5 thousand cases in 2022.
In addition, there has also been a drastic fall of 91 percent in the number of deaths compared to last year. This year, about 19 deaths were recorded per day compared to 220 deaths per day in 2021.

Then, the percentage of active cases as of August 17, 2022, stood at 0.84 percent, with 53,132 active cases recorded in the country, compared to 9.21 percent and 358,357 active cases in the year-ago period.
As for the recovery rate, it reached 96.66 percent on August 17, 2022, while the rate stood at just 87.71 in the year-ago period.
Further, the hospital bed occupancy rate nationwide reached 39.63 percent in 2021. In comparison, this year, the bed occupancy rate stood at 6.44 percent.

Besides the COVID-19 pandemic situation, Adisasmito also spoke about the improvement in the achievements of the government’s COVID-19 vaccination program.
On August 17, 2021, the first dose vaccination coverage stood at 26.40 percent and the second dose coverage was recorded at 14 percent. In the same period this year, the coverage has reached 86.52 percent for the first dose and 72.68 percent for the second dose.
In addition, the government has also rolled out the third dose or booster dose vaccination in 2022, which has so far been administered to 25.10 percent of the targeted recipients.
