Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s National Police deployed 200 Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel and 10 Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) officers to help fight forest and land fires in East and Central Kalimantan.
National Police Public Information Bureau Chief Brig. Gen. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko said here Monday the deployment was part of a comprehensive effort to tackle the fires.
Brimob personnel will help extinguish fires and prevent them from spreading, while Bareskrim officers will support law enforcement.
“The effort is being coordinated with relevant agencies and local communities to minimize the impact of forest and land fires,” Trunoyudo said.
Of the Brimob contingent, 100 personnel from Regiment 1 Gegana and Regiment 1 Pelopor of Brimob Corps II were assigned to East Kalimantan.
They will help tackle fires in East Kutai District and support mitigation efforts in the Nusantara capital area and the districts of West Kutai and Paser.
Another 100 personnel from Regiment 2 Pelopor of Brimob Corps II were sent to Central Kalimantan, focusing on fires including at Tanjung Puting National Park in West Kotawaringin, where intensive firefighting is needed.
In addition to that, Bareskrim deployed five officers to each province to support investigations into suspected crimes related to the fires, including efforts to determine their causes and identify those responsible if criminal activity is found, he said.
Trunoyudo said fighting forest and land fires requires cooperation among field personnel, local governments and communities.
Coordination among all parties is essential to contain fires and reduce their effects on the environment and residents, he said.
“Police will continue working with agencies and communities to fight fires and enforce the law when warranted. We urge residents not to burn land and to report fires promptly,” he said.
