State budget key tool to protect citizens: Prabowo

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto presented the 2027 draft state budget to parliament on Friday, framing fiscal policy as a vital welfare instrument to guarantee food, education, healthcare, and social protections nationwide.

Delivering his annual budget address at the opening of the 2026–2027 parliamentary session in Jakarta, Prabowo emphasized that national spending must deliver direct, everyday benefits to ordinary citizens.

“The state budget is an instrument to protect the people, a tool to strengthen the nation, and a means to realize our independence by achieving a better life,” Prabowo told lawmakers.

While past generations fought for political sovereignty, Prabowo noted that today’s imperative is ensuring that independence translates into tangible improvements in living standards and active government intervention.

“The state must be present when farmers need fertilizer, when fishermen need boats and cold storage, and when workers require workplace protections,” Prabowo said, adding that public funds must secure nutritious school meals, affordable housing, clean water, healthcare, and robust safety nets.

He argued that true national sovereignty goes beyond political freedom.

“Independence must be felt at the people’s dining tables, in our children’s classrooms, in local health clinics, and in the future of every Indonesian family,” he said.

The president also expressed gratitude to the House of Representatives (DPR) for its ongoing oversight and cooperation in finalizing the 2027 fiscal blueprint.
