Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force reported that local economic activity across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra continues to recover and show steady progress after the late 2025 floods and landslides.
This recovery is evident in the reopening of traditional markets, improved access to business financing, and the revival of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) throughout the three affected provinces in Sumatra.
“As of today, traditional market activation has reached 90 percent in Aceh, while North Sumatra and West Sumatra have both hit 100 percent,” said Amran, spokesperson for the task force, during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.
Amran noted that the reopening of traditional markets is a key indicator of recovering trade and economic activity. This momentum is also reflected in business financing, particularly through the government-subsidized People’s Business Credit (KUR) scheme.
As of October 5, 2026, he reported 121,984 KUR debtors in Aceh, 44,049 in North Sumatra, and 27,670 in West Sumatra. The figures show that residents are actively accessing funds to resume and expand their businesses.
Beyond trade and financing, MSME activity continues to gain momentum, with 40,634,395 e-commerce transactions recorded as of August 26, 2026. Local economic recovery is further supported by aid distribution, which is continuously monitored to meet community needs during the post-disaster recovery phase.
In the agricultural sector, paddy field restoration is underway, with completion reaching 56.71 percent, or 17,844 hectares, in Aceh; 96.57 percent, or 7,085 hectares, in North Sumatra; and 100 percent, or 3,902 hectares, in West Sumatra.
Recovery efforts also extend to the marine and fisheries sector through aquaculture restoration, assistance for wild-capture fisheries, rehabilitation of 10.88 hectares of fishponds, and the strengthening of fish processing and marketing through supporting equipment.
As economic recovery continues, the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring and supporting recovery across sectors to ensure sustainable economic activity.
