Jakarta (ANTARA) –

Police chief-designate Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto outlined “Police with the People” as his leadership doctrine and introduced a 100-day program to begin transforming Indonesia’s National Police (Polri).

During a fit-and-proper test at the House of Representatives (DPR) complex in Jakarta on Thursday, Suyudi said the doctrine would place the public at the center of policing.

Suyudi pledged to continue reforming Polri, saying he was ready to identify and address institutional shortcomings while “preserving and expanding upon the achievements made by predecessors.”

His first 100 days will begin with a comprehensive institutional assessment, a reform command structure, baseline indicators, and reviews of public complaints and ongoing cases during the first month.

The first 30 days will also focus on protections for vulnerable groups, the readiness of local police offices and mapping high-impact crimes, he added.

The second month will assess progress from the first month, while days 61 to 100 will focus on showcasing reform results and addressing unresolved challenges.

“The first 100 days are not a stage for announcing as many programs as possible. This period is a phase for setting a direction,” Suyudi said.

He said institutional reform requires a comprehensive effort involving leaders and rank-and-file personnel, stressing that senior officers must lead by example.

“I will go into the field not for publicity, but to identify problems, listen to personnel and the public, make decisions, and ensure they are implemented,” he said.

Commission III approved Suyudi’s nomination to succeed General Listyo Sigit Prabowo as Polri chief after the fit-and-proper test, with the DPR later endorsing his appointment in a plenary session chaired by Speaker Puan Maharani.

The DPR had received a letter from President Prabowo Subianto proposing the leadership change on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
