Jakarta (ANTARA) – The government can again tighten restrictions on the people’s mobility in the event of an upward trend in COVID-19 cases, spokesperson of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, stated.

“If there is a significant or consistent worsening in (the COVID-19) situation, it can be indicated that the (restrictions) will be tightened,” Adisasmito noted as confirmed here, Thursday.

The spokesperson remarked that the government had continued to access the data in formulating policies as an instrument for controlling the pandemic. He called on the public to remain disciplined in following health protocols to prevent an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Adisasmito affirmed that the government was making sustained efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic while still concurrently working on economic recovery.

“Hence, we seek the cooperation of all parties to work together in implementing the existing policies with a sense of responsibility,” he affirmed.

The spokesperson also appealed to the public to remain disciplined in following health protocols despite an improvement in the situation of COVID-19 in the country.

“Regarding mobility, the public should pay attention to travel requirements and be disciplined in following health protocols during the trip,” he noted.

He informed that based on reports from the behavior-change dashboard, public compliance in wearing masks and social distancing over the past month had been consistently surpassing 90 percent nationally.

“However, the next task is to ensure that people in each region remain disciplined, and the compliance rate can reach 100 percent,” he stated.

The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Indonesia in March 2020. According to data from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), as of October 20, 2021, at least 4,237,201 people tested positive for COVID-19, while 4,077,748 people recovered, and 143,077 people succumbed to the deadly virus.
