Jakarta (ANTARA) – Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta invited Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to visit Timor-Leste, with Prabowo agreeing to plan the trip, Culture Minister Fadli Zon said.

Zon said the invitation was extended during Prabowo’s meeting with Ramos-Horta, who led a delegation of Nobel laureates to the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday..

Prabowo reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining a “good neighbor” policy aimed at strengthening harmonious relations with surrounding countries, he said.

The policy covers Timor-Leste, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, with Prabowo strongly committed to maintaining it, Zon said.

Prabowo also highlighted government priorities, including food and energy self-sufficiency and the Free Nutritious Meals program, according to Zon.

The president said Indonesia’s development programs were aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, he said.

Prabowo also hoped the visiting Nobel laureates would return to Indonesia to share their knowledge and experience with Indonesian scientists and research institutions.

Ramos-Horta, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, brought chemistry laureate Frances H. Arnold and economics laureate Robert C. Merton, along with several other Nobel Prize winners.

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Arrmanatha Nasir said before the meeting that the delegation included about 20 Nobel laureates who traveled to Jakarta after attending a forum in Timor-Leste.

The delegation also met Indonesia’s fifth president, Megawati Soekarnoputri, in Jakarta earlier on Friday.
