TNI reports four OPM members killed in Central Papua clash

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Habema Operational Command of the Indonesian Military (TNI) said four members of the Free Papua Movement (OPM) were killed in an armed clash with TNI personnel in Balamai Atas Village, Hitadipa District, Intan Jaya District, Central Papua on Friday.

Commander of the Habema Operational Command, Brigadier General Riyanto, said in an official statement received in Jakarta that the armed group was allegedly to be affiliated with OPM Kodap VIII/Intan Jaya, led by Daniel Aibon Kogoya.

According to Riyanto, the clash began after TNI personnel received information about the presence of an armed group around Balamai Atas Village.

Based on the information, Habema personnel then conducted an operation in the area to secure the location and protect local residents.

When the TNI personnel arrived at the location, an armed clash broke out with the group, Riyanto said.

The TNI said four members of the OPM were killed in the clash.

“Two were found around the scene, while the other two were reportedly killed after falling into a ravine during the clash,” he said.

According to the statement, TNI personnel also seized several items from the location, including one SS2 V1 rifle, one long-barreled firearm fitted with a Trijicon sight, 50 rounds of 5.56 millimeter ammunition, one SS2 V1 magazine, communication equipment, a mobile phone, and several pieces of field equipment.

Riyanto said the TNI would continue security operations to protect local residents from threats posed by armed groups, including through firm and measured actions.

“The ultimate goal is not merely to address security disturbances, but to create a safe space where people can live their lives peacefully,” he said.
