Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the United States Army personnel honed their jungle combat capabilities through tactical tunnel shooting exercises in Baturaja, South Sumatra, on Monday (Sept 7).
The exercise was part of the Super Garuda Shield (SGS) 2026 Joint Exercise at the Combat Training Center of the Indonesian Army Education and Training Command (Kodiklat TNI AD).
The tunnel shooting drill is a specialized tactical maneuver involving coordinated attacks and firing while advancing through jungle environments.
“The exercise aims to test soldiers’ abilities in carrying out tasks in an integrated manner, while strengthening coordination, communication, and cooperation,” the TNI Information Center stated in a press release on Tuesday.
The drill was also intended to strengthen operational ties between TNI personnel, the US Army, and forces from other partner countries participating in the multinational exercise.
The training session was completed safely without any incidents, with officials saying the program successfully enhanced marksmanship and inter-service camaraderie.
Super Garuda Shield 2026 involves 4,743 military personnel from 21 countries who gathered in Indonesia to test operational readiness, bolster defense diplomacy, and improve response capabilities to regional security challenges.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto said the multi-week exercise comprises 12 distinct tactical training modules designed to boost operational readiness across diverse combat scenarios.
Running from August 31 to September 11, the joint military exercise was carried out across several locations in Indonesia, including Bandung, Jakarta, Lampung, Baturaja and Nunukan.
Participating countries include Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
