Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) – Trigana Air has temporarily suspended flights to four towns in Indonesia’s Papua Highlands and South Papua Provinces as wildfire smoke reduces visibility, the airline said.
The affected destinations are Dekai in Yahukimo District, Tanah Merah in Boven Digoel District, Kepi in Mappi District, and Agats in Asmat District.
“Flights to the four towns remained suspended through Thursday, October 15, because of smoke from forest and land fires,” Trigana Air Papua General Manager Irwan Rochendi told ANTARA in Jayapura on Thursday.
Smoke has reduced visibility at the destinations, prompting the airline to temporarily halt services, Rochendi said.
Flights to Tanah Merah and Kepi have been suspended since Friday, October 9, he said.
Flights to Wamena have also faced disruptions, with only one passenger service operating before conditions worsened, while other flights were postponed, Rochendi said.
“When weather improved, a Trigana Air passenger plane flew to Wamena, landed, and returned to Sentani Airport, while other flights were postponed as conditions deteriorated again,” he said.
