Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Vice President Ma’ruf Amin reminded the public of the dangers of computational propaganda carried out by spreading disinformation or hoaxes on social media.
Amin made this statement while attending a gathering with central and regional leaders of the Nahdlatul Ulama Teacher Association (Pergunu) at the K.H. Abdul Chalim Institut, Mojokerto, East Java, on Friday (June 3).
“There are currently many fake accounts that use platforms, such as Google and Facebook, and this is already happening in America. What is this called? Computational propaganda,” the vice president said as quoted in a press release here on Saturday.
The vice president remarked that the computational propaganda had penetrated the community to the smallest unit in society, specifically children.
Hence, the vice president appealed to all levels of society, including teachers and students at the institute, to respond well to the issue.
“What we have to prevent is an attempt to corrupt and influence people’s minds to delude them (through technological advances),” he stated.
The vice president advised all teachers and students under Pergunu to master information technology and its development, so that they do not get entrapped in computational propaganda.
