VP Gibran visits quake-hit East Nusa Tenggara to oversee recovery

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka traveled to East Nusa Tenggara Province on Thursday with University of Indonesia psychology students to oversee disaster response and recovery efforts.

During the visit, Gibran invited students to help provide trauma recovery support for disaster victims in affected areas.

Gibran said young people’s enthusiasm and concern should be supported and channeled into concrete actions benefiting disaster-affected communities, according to a statement received here Thursday.

He said student involvement was an important expression of the spirit of mutual cooperation in responding to disasters.

The government must not only meet residents’ immediate needs but also encourage young people to contribute according to their skills and expertise, he said.

The visit was also aimed at assessing conditions among affected communities and ensuring their needs during the emergency response were being met.

This would allow the government to tailor recovery measures to residents’ actual conditions and needs.

During his working visit, Gibran will inspect several disaster-hit sites and basic public-service facilities in Sikka, Manggarai, and East Manggarai Districts.

Gibran’s presence reflects the government’s commitment to disaster victims, as protecting residents’ safety is a state responsibility and meeting their needs remains a priority.

At the same time, cooperation among the government, communities, students, and other groups is expected to accelerate the recovery process.
