Whoosh draws one million foreign passengers in three years: KCIC

Bandung, W Java (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Whoosh high-speed rail service carried more than one million foreign passengers in its first three years, operator PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) said.

International visitors’ use of the service is helping strengthen tourism links between Jakarta and Bandung, said Eva Chairunisa, KCIC’s general manager for corporate secretary affairs.

Malaysia accounted for about 43 percent of foreign ridership, or roughly 430,000 passengers, Eva said in Bandung on Monday.

KCIC carried 18.2 million passengers from the start of commercial operations on October 17, 2023, through October 16, 2026.

“Whoosh has become part of daily mobility, with more than 18 million passengers using it for travel between Jakarta and Bandung over the past three years,” she said.

Since launching paid commercial service on October 17, 2023, the line has expanded from 14 to 62 trips a day as both operations and ridership have grown.

Daily ridership has climbed from about 9,000 passengers to a peak of more than 26,000. The service now carries more than 500,000 passengers a month.

Whoosh carried about 1.14 million passengers in October-December 2023, 6.06 million in 2024 and 6.2 million in 2025. It carried about 4.86 million from January 1 to October 16, 2026.

The service recorded no accidents over its first three years, with on-time performance of 99.4 percent and customer satisfaction of 95.95 percent, Eva said.
