Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Air Force has taken delivery of a new NC-212i light transport aircraft from state-owned manufacturer PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI), marking the eighth delivery under a nine-aircraft defense procurement contract with the Ministry of Defense.
The aircraft, bearing tail number A-211, arrived at Abdulrachman Saleh Air Force Base in Malang, East Java, on Thursday, July 30, following a direct ferry flight from PTDI’s facility in Bandung. It will join Air Squadron 4 under Transport Group 1.
Air Commodore I Nyoman Suadnyana, head of the Air Force Information Center, confirmed that the procurement is part of an ongoing joint defense agreement to modernize Indonesia’s military hardware and bolster operational readiness.
“With the addition of this transport aircraft, the operational readiness of the unit will increase to meet increasingly complex and dynamic mission demands,” said Transport Group 1 Commander Air Commodore I Gusti Putu Setia Darma in an official statement.
The locally assembled NC-212i is configured for multi-role operations, including troop transport, cloud seeding for weather modification, and aerial photographic mapping.
The aircraft is powered by Honeywell TPE331 engines fitted with European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA)-certified MTV-27 propellers, designed to reduce noise and vibration while improving high-altitude single-engine stability.
According to PTDI Production Director Dena Hendriana, the delivery underscores the company’s commitment to fulfilling national defense requirements.
The aircraft formally passed its Flight Acceptance Certificate on July 9, 2026, ahead of the transfer flight led by Pilot in Command Lieutenant Colonel Andika Ardyagana.
The ninth and final aircraft under the current Ministry of Defense contract is scheduled for delivery in October 2027.
