Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia and Thailand agreed on Monday to strengthen law enforcement cooperation through intelligence sharing, joint investigations, and financial tracking to dismantle transnational criminal networks, including online scam operations, while enhancing protection for victims.
The agreement was announced during a joint press statement by President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta following their bilateral meeting.
Prabowo said both governments had agreed to expand cooperation through information and intelligence sharing while strengthening joint investigations to combat transnational crime.
“Going forward, we have agreed to strengthen cooperation in information and intelligence sharing. We will also enhance cooperation through joint investigations,” Prabowo said.
The two countries also agreed to strengthen efforts to trace financial flows linked to transnational criminal networks and improve coordination among law enforcement authorities to dismantle cross-border crime networks.
The cooperation covers various forms of transnational crime, including online scams.
Indonesia and Thailand also agreed to accelerate mechanisms for protecting, identifying, and safely repatriating victims of transnational crime.
“We also support the development of a Transnational Referral Mechanism (TRM) as a breakthrough to accelerate the protection, identification, and safe, dignified repatriation of victims of transnational crime,” Prabowo said.
The Indonesian president expressed appreciation to the Thai government for its close cooperation in facilitating the repatriation of nearly 1,000 Indonesian nationals who had fallen victim to online scam operations.
“I express my appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the Indonesian people to the Thai government for its assistance and close cooperation in facilitating the repatriation of Indonesian citizens who became victims of online scams,” he said.
Prabowo said the repatriation of nearly 1,000 Indonesians reflected meaningful bilateral cooperation to protect citizens while strengthening efforts to combat transnational crime.
During the meeting, Prabowo also called for stronger defense and security cooperation, proposing more frequent joint military exercises between the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the Royal Thai Armed Forces, as well as expanded exchanges of military officers for training and education.
The two leaders also discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, food security, energy security, digital technology, connectivity, and people-to-people exchanges as part of efforts to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Prabowo said he was confident the meeting would set a clear direction for the next phase of bilateral relations after Indonesia and Thailand elevated their ties to a strategic partnership last year.
The two leaders also launched the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026-2030, which outlines cooperation in security, economic development, and socio-cultural sectors.
