Jakarta (ANTARA) –

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo said the capital’s poverty rate fell to 3.96 percent in March 2026, dropping below 4 percent for the first time.

“Thankfully, Jakarta’s poverty rate fell below 4 percent for the first time last March, reaching 3.96 percent,” he said at a press conference on the realization of the 2026 third-quarter regional budget (APBD) at City Hall on Wednesday.

He explained that nearly all indicators related to poverty and employment in Jakarta had shown significant improvement.

“These include an open unemployment rate of 5.79 percent and a labor force participation rate of 66.05 percent, up 0.57 percentage points from last February,” Pramono said.

According to him, the progress was achieved despite continued global economic pressures, supported by sustained optimism.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing workers for employment through a Mobile Training Unit program that connects trainees from various fields with 214 companies.

“I have visited these programs several times and seen training in basic skills such as makeup, hairdressing, sewing and languages. Language courses are currently attracting considerable interest,” he said.

Pramono explained that most destination countries require migrant workers from Jakarta to meet certain foreign-language proficiency standards. He therefore urged prospective migrant workers to improve their language skills before departing for overseas employment.

“When we sent several workers from Jakarta to Germany, Japan and the Middle East about three months ago, if I remember correctly, we asked them to improve their language skills before departure,” the governor said.

In December 2025, the Jakarta Provincial Government set a target of lifting between 69,510 and 167,270 residents out of poverty by 2030. The target was considered achievable given the region’s strong fiscal capacity, as reflected in its regional budget.
