Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) are strengthening cooperation with the Thai Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) to target drug networks in Southeast Asia.

While receiving the Thai ONCB in Jakarta on Thursday (November 5), National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto highlighted both countries’ commitment to strengthening cooperation in dismantling transnational drug networks.

“The synergy between the Thai ONCB, the Indonesian National Police, and the BNN is a strategic step considering the increasingly complex challenges of drug trafficking and the involvement of international networks,” he remarked in a statement on Friday.

The meeting reinforced the commitment to sustain and expand strategic cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand in addressing and combating drug-related crimes, particularly in Southeast Asia.

One area of cooperation involves tracking and pursuing fugitives suspected of operating in the border areas between Thailand and Myanmar.

Suyudi stated that coordination and collaboration will be further intensified to support the successful uncovering of various drug network targets.

Through the meeting, the BNN, the National Police, and Thailand’s ONCB reaffirmed their commitment to improving information exchange, coordination, and law enforcement efforts to disrupt illicit drug trafficking networks and prevent international drug syndicates from expanding their operations.

Previously, the National Police and the Chinese National Narcotics Control Commission (NNCC) also strengthened collaboration in efforts to uncover transnational liquid drug trafficking networks.

Suyudi informed that the two parties have established cooperation in eradicating narcotics and successfully uncovered a clandestine drug laboratory case in Pidie District, Aceh.

The laboratory produced liquid methamphetamine into crystal methamphetamine.

The case resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals, 10 of whom have been named suspects, and the confiscation of 1.2 tons of methamphetamine as evidence.

The police chief said that the collaboration will continue to protect Indonesia and other countries from the threat of drugs.
