Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s sixth president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has expressed optimism over the direction of national development outlined by President Prabowo Subianto in his 2026 State of the Nation Address.

Yudhoyono shared his views in a video recorded in Rochester, United States, and uploaded via the official Instagram account @aniyudhoyono, monitored here on Sunday.

“Speaking of 2027, and marking the start of the 2027 state budget, I see that the blueprint and development agenda the government will carry out next year is getting better, clearer, and offers new hope for all of us,” Yudhoyono said.

Yudhoyono said he followed Prabowo’s State of the Nation Address at the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Annual Session and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) on Friday (August 14).

He also received information from several colleagues in Indonesia regarding the substance of the speech, which he said brings new hope for the public.

According to Yudhoyono, the development ideas presented by the government point toward the right policies in facing various challenges, both domestic and international.

“I know the challenges facing our nation remain quite strong, both domestic and internal factors. But what the government has conceived and planned is, in my view, appropriate,” he said.

He said several agenda items presented by the government, such as maintaining economic growth, reducing unemployment and poverty, improving health and education services, and building infrastructure, are important matters for the public.

“In my view, this is a very important agenda,” he said.

Yudhoyono also highlighted the 6 percent national economic growth target set by the Prabowo-Gibran administration, saying the target is ambitious but still achievable.

The former president cited his own experience leading Indonesia for 10 years with average economic growth of around 6 percent as one basis for his optimism.

He added that economic growth also affects gross domestic product and per capita income.

“If 6 percent can be achieved by the Indonesian government, it will have a good impact on our people,” Yudhoyono said.
