Jakarta (ANTARA) –

Indonesia’s Higher Education, Science, and Technology Ministry explores new cooperation potentials with the Islamic Republic of Iran in academic exchange, science park development, and research downstreaming.

During a meeting with Esfandiar Ekhtiyari, Deputy for Policy and Development at the Iranian Vice Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, Minister Brian Yuliarto expressed Indonesia’s openness for strategic education cooperation with Iran.

“We are happy to welcome Iranian professors as guest lecturers in Indonesian universities to enhance science and technology cooperation between Iran and Indonesia,” Yuliarto said during the Friday meeting, according to a written statement.

Besides academic exchange, the two parties discussed collaboration potentials in the development of science techno parks as an ecosystem to support research optimisation.

They also explored cooperation in research downstreaming and business incubator development in strategic sectors, such as energy and aerospace.

The cooperation is expected to open greater collaboration, exchange of expertise, and joint research opportunities between Indonesian and Iranian researchers.

Meanwhile, the Iranian side reaffirmed their readiness to strengthen research and academic cooperation with Indonesia, especially on the science and technology parks development.

Ekhtiyari said that science techno parks in Iran are managed under the education and health ministries.

“We are ready to transfer our expertise in the field with Indonesia,” Ekhtiyari stressed.

The two parties expected cooperation in the sectors to be codified in a memorandum of understanding between higher education ministries in Indonesia and Iran. The document will be the first step in efforts to expand academic and downstreaming cooperation between the two countries.
