Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Navy held a ceremony aboard the KRI Sriwijaya-100 to mark the 98th anniversary of Youth Pledge Day, reinforcing national unity and patriotism among its personnel.

The ceremony, attended by senior Navy officials, ship crew members, Marine Corps personnel and other sailors, took place on Wednesday while the vessel was docked at Pier 107 at Tanjung Priok Port in North Jakarta.

Navy Chief of Staff Adm. Muhammad Ali told reporters that the ceremony was held on the ship’s flight deck to highlight the historical significance of its name.

“The Sriwijaya kingdom once united the archipelago. With its powerful navy, it united the archipelago and extended its influence across Southeast Asia. We aim to revive that spirit of unity, especially on Youth Pledge Day,” Ali said.

During the ceremony, the Navy presented awards to personnel who had excelled in sports and military assignments.

Ali said he hoped the event would strengthen sailors’ patriotism and help them fulfill their defense duties in the interest of national unity.
