Jakarta (ANTARA) – Police forensic investigators have launched an inquiry into a fire that broke out on Saturday morning at the high-rise Pullman Hotel in West Jakarta, forcing an emergency response by dozens of firefighters.
The blaze was reported around 7:54 a.m. local time after hotel security guards detected smoke near the emergency stairwell on the upper floors.
Initial firefighting efforts using portable extinguishers failed to contain the flames, prompting an urgent dispatch of municipal emergency services.
The West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency deployed 14 fire engines and 70 personnel to the scene, bringing the situation under control within 20 minutes.
“Currently, the situation at the fire site is under control, and officers have been cooling the area since 8:15 a.m. to ensure no remaining hotspots,” said West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency Director Syaiful Kahfi.
Preliminary assessments suggest an electrical short circuit on the lower levels may have triggered the incident.
Adjunct Commissioner Reza Aditya, chief of the Grogol Petamburan Police, confirmed that crime scene technicians from the Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafis) alongside national forensic specialists are examining the building to determine the precise cause and origin of the fire.
Authorities reported no initial casualties or estimated structural damage. The investigation remains ongoing.
