Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto wants to build a Grand National Museum (Museum Agung Nasional) in the National Monument (Monas) area in Jakarta as a center for history, education, entertainment, and recreation for the public.

“Following the completion of the revitalization of the National Gallery and the Elephant Museum, the President wants Indonesia to have a large-scale museum that serves as a center for history, education, entertainment, and recreation, particularly for students and the younger generation,” Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said in Jakarta on Thursday evening.

The construction follows the completion of the revitalization of the National Gallery on Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur, and the National Museum of Indonesia also known as the Elephant Museum, on Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat in Central Jakarta.

Teddy said the directive was given by President Prabowo to Minister of Culture Fadli Zon during a limited meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday.

The meeting was also attended by State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi and PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin. Besides the construction of the Grand National Museum, the meeting discussed the revitalization of the Monas area and Gambir Station, as well as the development of a railway network on the island of Bali.

According to Teddy, the museum construction and the revitalization of the Monas area aim to make the area more comfortable and attractive, while strengthening its historical and educational value for visitors.

The President also wants the improvement of public facilities through the revitalization program to deliver not only better services but also a source of national pride.

“The President wishes for the revitalization of the Monas area and Gambir Station, the construction of the Grand Museum, and the development of railway services in Bali to not only provide better public facilities, but also become a source of national pride,” Teddy said.
